PUBLIC AFFAIRS & ADVOCACY

The Public Affairs and Advocacy Committee works to educate Junior League of Las Vegas members on key local and national policy issues and to advocate for initiatives that support JLLV’s mission. PAAC provides opportunities for members to learn about the legislative process, engage with community leaders, and understand how public policy shapes the lives of women, children, and families in Southern Nevada.

As part of this work, the committee organizes educational events, hosts conversations with local and state officials, and represents JLLV in advocacy efforts that align with its mission. While JLLV is a non-partisan organization, membership includes women with a wide range of perspectives, and we encourage civic participation, community involvement, and informed voting.

JLLV has a long record of political engagement and leadership, with many members going on to run for and hold public office. The League’s legacy reflects a deep commitment to building informed, effective leaders who contribute to meaningful civic progress.

Highlights from Recent PAAC Activities

Hosted Candidate Conversations
Candidates for state and local office have joined JLLV members to discuss their platforms, community needs, and the issues shaping Nevada’s future. These events have brought together dozens of women to hear directly from candidates running for positions such as Lieutenant Governor, State Treasurer, and State Senate.

Promoted Civic Participation
PAAC partnered with the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center Committee to educate residents about voting rights and assist with voter registration.

Engaged at the State Capitol
Members of the Junior Leagues of Las Vegas and Reno traveled to Carson City during the Nevada Legislative Session to meet with lawmakers, learn about the legislative process, and share the Junior League’s mission, history, and community impact in Nevada.
