In July 2017, HELP of Southern Nevada opened the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center (SWHYC), a 150-bed facility dedicated to supporting at-risk youth experiencing homelessness or housing instability. The Center provides a safe, stable environment while promoting long-term self-sufficiency through educational support, employment readiness, social development, and life-skills training.

To support the launch of the Center, the Junior League of Las Vegas contributed $200,000 in April 2017 to fund two critical staff positions focused on education and life-skills programming. The League’s impact is also recognized through the Junior League of Las Vegas Dining Room, a dedicated space where residents gather to study, share meals, and build community.

Following the Center’s opening, JLLV established a dedicated Shannon West Homeless Youth Center Committee to support the partnership year-round. Today, the partnership between the JLLV and the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center stands as one of the League’s most enduring and impactful community initiatives. Through decades of investment, hands-on volunteerism, and strategic support, JLLV continues to help provide stability, opportunity, and hope for youth working toward independent futures.

JLLV members volunteer regularly, coordinating multiple activities each month, including:

• Tutoring and academic support

• Meal preparation and service

• Life-skills programming

• Health and wellness programming

• Recreational activities and youth engagement events
